CD/DVD Label

DVD Case Wrapsheet

DVD Case Insert

PRINT QUALITY:  We will print your DVD case graphics at 600 DPI, using a CMYK color process.  For best results, please be sure that the artwork that you send to us is at least 300 DPI, maximum 600 DPI.  We accept artwork files in either BMP or TIF file format.

BLEED AREA: If your artwork background is white, please ignore this paragraph.  If your artwork has a colored background, you may add a 1/8-inch bleed area as specified below.  This means that your colored background will be printed over the edge of the cut page, to insure your background color and graphics extend to the edge of the cut page.  IMPORTANTIf you add a bleed area to your graphic you must begin the filename with the word "bleed", for example "bleed-cdcover.bmp".  If you do not use the word "bleed" in the file name, we will shrink your graphic to fit the normal print area.

CD/DVD Label

We accept artwork files in either BMP or TIF file format.  The CD/DVD label will be printed with a black thermal printer or with a inkjet color printer, directly on the face of the disc.

Should I choose a color label?

If you do not check "Color Label" on the setup page, we will print your CD label with a black/grayscale thermal printer, on a silver CD. This is the choice of almost all of our larger customers, since it produces a very professional, crisp, clear image.

There are some disadvantages to color printing:

1. If it gets wet, the color ink will smear and run (thermal printing is permanent)

2. The CD will have a white background, not silver. Some customers think it looks like a white paper label has been applied to the CD.

3. Depending on the handling in the mail, ink on color CDs shipped in sleeves may fade and rub off (this does not happen with thermal images)

You have two options for the label artwork:

1.  You can upload a graphic 2 inches wide by 1 inch tall, and use our default label layout (example here).

2.  You can upload a round image, which we will use for the entire CD/DVD.  For black/grayscale labels, no more than 60% of the disc face may be covered with text and graphics (in other words, 40% of the pixels on the page should be white or transparent).  In addition, we strongly recommend against solid black backgrounds, as these do not print accurately near the edge of the CD.  The graphic must have an outer diameter of 4.5 inches, and an inner diameter (the "hole" in the disc) of 1.75 inches.  NOTE:  For color labels, the inner diameter "hole" must be 1.5 inches.  We must also be able to print a bar code on the face of the CD/DVD in the position shown in the example above.

Panel 1 - If you hold the folded insert like a book, this is the cover of the book, visible on the left when the DVD case is opened.

Panel 2 - This panel in printed to the left of Panel 1.  When folded and inserted in the DVD case, Panel 2 is not visible when the DVD case is opened.  The printed insert must be removed from the retaining clips to view Panel 2.

Panel 3 - (Used only if you choose a 4-panel print job).  If you remove the folded insert from the DVD case and open it like a book, Panel 3 is visible on your left.
